Benefits of Couples Counseling

Whether you’re going through a crisis now, or just looking to strengthen and improve your connection, couples counseling offers many benefits to those who commit to it including…

Couples Counseling at COBB

We love love. That’s why we find such joy in working with couples. Our couples counseling sessions are tailored to your specific needs and goals. Whether you’re dealing with infidelity, conflict in your day-to-day, or just seeking to develop a stronger bond with your partner, our therapists are here to provide the support and tools to guide you along your journey.

Our Approach to Couples Counseling

emotionally focused therapy (EFT)

EFT is a therapeutic approach aimed at strengthening your emotional connection. This approach helps partners understand and express their feelings more openly. In an EFT session, your therapist might help you identify your emotional responses to a situation and pinpoint your patterns. By bringing these emotions to light, couples can then respond to each other’s needs more empathetically, creating a stronger, more secure relationship.

the Gottman Method

Drs. John and Julie Schwartz Gottman created the Gottman Method based on their extensive studies of what makes a relationship work or fail. The Gottman Method focuses on building friendship, managing conflict, and creating shared meaning. In a session, couples might work on improving communication, rebuilding trust, or nurturing intimacy through specific exercises facilitated by a therapist.

cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT)

Cognitive behavioral therapy, sometimes known as just CBT, targets negative thought patterns and behaviors affecting your relationship. Together with a trained therapist, you’ll identify and shift unhelpful thoughts and behaviors, build healthier dialogue, resolve conflicts in a constructive way, and strengthen the emotional foundation of your relationship by building trust and fostering intimacy.

At COBB, our therapists are committed to finding the approach that works for you and your partner. Your sessions may include a combination of these approaches or others so you can reach your therapeutic goals.
