therapy with COBB

Both! We see clients in our conveniently located offices in Manhattan and Brooklyn. We also offer sessions online, or as a hybrid mix of in person and remote.

To schedule your first session, call us at 212-575-2622.

We provide individual therapy for adults, adolescents, and children who are looking for support with navigating emotional and/or interpersonal challenges. We have some clinicians who provide couples therapy and when appropriate, family therapy as well.

We offer therapy virtually online and in person at either our Manhattan or Brooklyn locations. Individual therapy sessions are 45 minutes, and couples or family sessions are 60 minutes.

fees, insurance & sessions

We’re understanding when there’s an emergency, and we always do our best to schedule make-up sessions quickly. But due to the high cost of offering services in New York City, COBB does have a cancellation / no-show policy. Clients are charged a $50 fee for a missed or “no-show” appointment or for canceling less than 48 hours in advance. These fees are typically not reimbursed by insurance.

Ultimately, we want to make therapy accessible to everyone – no matter what your budget is. That said, the price of sessions depends on your insurance coverage and therapist selection. Figuring out your insurance coverage can sometimes feel like learning another language, but we can help you translate insurance lingo and explain your coverage so you can make an informed decision you’re comfortable with.

Virtual sessions are accessible through our client portal; our online platform is secure and HIPAA-compliant. Our therapists use it to schedule appointments and will send you a secure link and reminder email before your appointment. You might prefer to have all of your sessions online or to supplement your in-person sessions with online sessions as needed. The choice is yours.

Mentally and emotionally you can be wherever you want – but physically speaking it depends on which state you’re in and what state your therapist is licensed in. For example, if your therapist is licensed in New York then you have to (physically) be in the state of New York to receive therapy.

We work with most major insurance carriers and accept both in-network and out-of-network benefits. As a courtesy to our clients, we obtain benefit quotes from insurers. When you call, we’ll explain your coverage and what you’ll be responsible for before setting up an appointment. Our goal is to make this process as easy as possible for you. Of course, insurance benefit quotes are subject to change and are not guarantees, but we do our best to make sure you have all the information you need to make an informed decision.

We accept payment by credit card, cash, and check. Payments are made at the time of each session. As a policy, COBB requires a credit card on file, regardless of how you plan to pay for your sessions.

Our practice thrives on referrals from our clients! If you like the services you receive, please refer us to your friends and family. But please know that even when friends and family make referrals, we will always ensure everyone’s information remains private and confidential.

general therapy questions

Psychotherapy is often called talk therapy, counseling, or even just therapy. Psychotherapy is really just one type of approach to gain insight, resolve conflict, and/or experience personal growth.

That’s up to you. We’ll work with you to set goals, but therapy doesn’t have a specific time frame. Some people come in and prefer to target issues quickly and directly. Others might choose a more steady pace and take time to explore, process, and unpack their “stuff.”

Absolutely, 100%. ALL communication between therapists and clients is private and protected information by law. Aside from very specific situations, a therapist can’t tell anyone what’s been discussed in a session or even acknowledge that you’re a client without your explicit permission.
